Targeting the live sports broadcast market,
NewTek's new 3Play 425 will let producers edit in-game highlights
in realtime, ensuring that spectacular goal (or spectacular dive)
can be instantly scrutinised by fans in full HD slow
motion.
One of the big highlights for us (no pun intended) is how the NewTek 3Play 425
will integrate with any switcher. That means if you're already
using a TriCaster 450 or 850 for switching between streams, it
can hook up with it over a Gig-E network to provide an all-in-one
replay and transition solution for up to four live cameras. (And
with its 2U form factor, they can also sit nicely together in your
rack.)
We can't wait to get our hands on the included control surface,
too. NewTek's
controls always feature nice, chunky T-bars and jog wheels, and
large, backlit buttons that make them easy to operate while
controlling inputs. This should make it ideal for sports
broadcasters who need to get slow-mo replays out as they happen, or
put together highlights packages with a quick turnaround.
Live sports editors already rave about the current version of
the 3Play slow motion
replay system. Ernesto Ascione, Technical Director and co-owner
of Cast Produczione recently used 3Play during the 2011 Beach
Soccer World Championship qualification in Naples. He explained:
"We were really impressed by the efficiency and the speed of 3Play
workflow. In this kind of international event, you need to be on
top of your production and 3Play proved to be even more efficient
than the equipment used as references on the replay market."
