Echo Express ChassisIf all the praise heaped on Intel's Thunderbolt so far has left you cold, this video from Adobe's Dave Helmly might just convert you.

In the closest thing we've seen to a magic trick in some time, Dave hooks up his MacBook Air to a Sonnet Echo Express chassis via Thunderbolt, fires up a RED Rocket card, and proceeds to work with full-res 4K footage in Premiere Pro, in realtime, on a notebook - while recording the whole thing and taking screencaps at the same time.

"In terms of workflow, this might feel a bit fantastical," said Jigsaw Solutions Architect Anthony Corcoran, "but as a demonstration of Thunderbolt in real terms, not just figures, it's impressive."

"It's not a setup you're likely to use," agreed James Graham, "but it demonstrates neatly how quickly things are moving in the post space now. This time last year, using Thunderbolt with Windows and cutting 4K footage on a low-spec machine while capturing HD-SDI out would have been impossible."
